For a second year I donated a piece of Artwork to WACO Theatre Centre for the Annual Wearable Art Gala. The piece I donated was Azra. I love to align myself with causes that I truly believe in . WACO theatre centre provides value and much needed support to inner city youth. Through service learning and the arts. Here’s some information about their programming:
WACO THEATER CENTER’s PROGRAMS
Their Core programs include Tina’s Angels, a yearlong mentorship program for teenage girls; and Richard’s Warriors is a mentorship program for teenage boys. Mentors are assigned to worthy participants who have potential and desire to live a successful productive life but do not have the guidance, financial ability or access to the road map to get there.
They focus on nurturing the potential and self-esteem in every student by showing them how to find, develop and nourish their voices through the various forms of art.
Last year My artwork was auctioned to raise money for the organization in the Art Auction. My collage “Giselle” sold for $6,100. This year Blessings have come around again and “Azra” is apart of the art auction. 24×24 inches, acrylic, gold leaf, gold pigment, paper and ink on chinese traditional painting board in frame.
.
I made both Giselle and Azra at the same period of my life where I was transitioning from Guiyang China. These were the last works I made in my apartment studio. They hold so much significance because they to me were a metaphor for opening my heart up to abundance, hence why they are dressed opulently.
